Body language: who’s Mitt’s VP?

Mitt Romney is turning his body toward Tim Pawlenty and wearing a relaxed (for him) smile, indicating his affectionate feelings for the former Minnesota governor. But Tim isn’t quite sure how to respond—notice his downcast eyes, clasped hands and bashful expression.

Rob Portman and Mitt Romney want to like each other, or want to be seen as liking each other, hence the slight leans. Rob is a little more invested in this dynamic than Mitt—his lean is more pronounced—but do either of them mean it? They’re careful not to brush arms, and they’ve got their gazes focused in different directions.

Paul Ryan knows he doesn’t stand a chance.
